Zeil and her team have struggled against this treason. But elections empowered a crew of Sib lackeys, who, in time, ran all five out of their jobs.

Zeil’s group fights on but is stymied at every turn. Evar is murdered outright. A Sib judge banishes Vaun to a remote weather lab. Evar’s partner Stin is crippled by grief. Patri wangles a post with the rebels themselves, where his duties prove repellent but not unlawful. And nobody knows where to find Lani.
